Édua Szűcs exhibition open at Somogyi Library

An exhibition showcasing the works of Szeged-born illustrator Édua Szűcs, opened last Thursday on the first floor of the Somogyi Library. The title of the exhibition is Color–Line–Art in a Humorous Perspective (Szín–Vonal–művészet humornézetben).

After completing her studies, Édua Szűcs worked at the animation department of Pannónia Film Studio, contributing to popular films that gained both domestic and international recognition, such as the Hungarian Folk Tales series. Since 1986, she has created illustrations and cartoons for newspapers and illustrated numerous children’s and language books.

"I was born into an artist family in 1959 in Szeged. My father, Árpád Szűcs, was a restorer and painter, while my mother, Margit Sz. Kováts, worked as an art teacher and painter. Unlike them, I was always more captivated by lines than colors. Although most of my work involves illustrating books and magazines, I still consider myself a cartoonist. After my mother’s passing, I inherited her paints. Eventually, I felt I couldn’t let those tubes go unused, so I began painting. A few years ago, I found a way to merge my cartoonist roots with painting. I create homages by reimagining the works of great artists and iconic pieces. This exhibition presents a selection of my paintings and ink drawings," Édua Szűcs said about herself.

The exhibition will be on view on the first floor of the Somogyi Library until March 1.
