Anna Varsányi's Szent-Györgyi poster selected for 4th PosterFest Budapest
Anna Varsányi's poster, designed for the world premiere of the play Szent-Györgyi at the Szeged Pinceszínház, has been selected for the 4th PosterFest Budapest Exhibition, held every three years at the Pesti Vigadó in Budapest, as reported by the local news outlet Szeged.hu.
Varsányi, a distinguished figure in Szeged’s artistic community, has long been involved in graphic design, with numerous successful book covers and theater posters to her name. Her poster for Szent-Györgyi, a play written by Zsolt Pozsgai and directed by Orsolya Kancsár, which premiered last Friday at the Szeged Pinceszínház, will join the international exhibition opening in Budapest on January 9.
A celebrated dramaturge, playwright, translator, and set and costume designer, Anna Varsányi has been a key figure at the Szeged National Theater since 2003, where she has contributed to countless productions. In 2015, she co-founded A and A Production, where she continues to produce acclaimed works. Her contributions to theater and literature have significantly enriched Szeged’s cultural life.
This year’s PosterFest Budapest has drawn remarkable international participation, with 887 artists from 62 countries submitting 2,047 entries, reflecting the festival’s global prestige. An international jury will evaluate the selected works, including Gitte Kath (Denmark), a director, dramaturge, costume designer, and graphic artist; Patrycja Longawa (Poland), an illustrator, graphic designer, and poster artist; and Radoslava Boor (Bulgaria), a visual artist, graphic designer, and curator.
Organized by the Hungarian Poster Association, PosterFest Budapest is a triennial celebration of poster art. The festival highlights national and regional design trends and the evolving role of posters in visual arts and provides a platform for both professional and student designers to showcase their work. The competition accepts entries created in the past three years without thematic restrictions, and the top three works receive awards, with all selected posters exhibited at the iconic Pesti Vigadó.
