8th Rotary Charity Rubber Duck Race
The 8th Rotary Charity Rubber Duck Race will take place on the first weekend of September, during the International Tisza Fish Festival. This year's Rubber Duck Race, sponsored by Classic Grill and other local companies, starts on Saturday, September 2, from 2 p.m. at Újszeged Partfürdő.
Last year, the event raised HUF 2.9M which was used to finance the life-saving heart surgery of three children.
The aim of the 2023 charity race is the same, to raise enough money for a life-saving heart surgery for a child. Anyone can buy rubber duck donation tickets and even help reach the goal with further donations. The full amount raised will go to the Gift of Life program, allowing Hungarian children from neighboring countries — mostly Romania, Serbia, and Ukraine — to receive life-saving heart surgeries in Hungary.
During the race, 5.000 yellow rubber ducks will be poured into the river, each of them with an individual start number. Because of the drift, the ducks will start racing until they reach the designated goal. Helper boats will ensure that the competing rubber ducks stay within the section of the river marked as the race course.
The race track is continuously narrowed until the ducks reach the goal, which leads through a narrow gate. Those who have a donation ticket with the serial number of the first 150 arriving ducks will receive valuable gifts from the sponsors of the event.
