Over 25 thousand visitors at Móra Museum's Ancient China exhibition

The visitor number of the Ancient China exhibition at Móra Ferenc Museum surpassed 25 thousand on Monday, August 14, 2023. Ottó Fogas, the director of the museum, greeted the twenty-fifth thousandth guest with a gift package.

The first part of the Ancient China exhibition, presenting life-like copies of the terracotta warriors found at the tomb of Qin Shi Huang Di, the first emperor of China, opened on May 26, 2023. The second part of the exhibition — with nearly 130 original, ancient Chinese artifacts shipped to Szeged directly from the Shanghai Museum — opened at the Night of Museums, on June 24.

The Ancient China exhibition's visitor number surpassed 15 thousand on July 14, and now it's already over 25 thousand. As usual, the director of the museum, Ottó Fogas, greeted the guests who bought the 25 thousandth ticket — in this case a couple from Budapest — with a gift package matching the theme of the exhibition.

Due to the high visitor number, the museum is open on Mondays too and awaits visitors throughout the summer with extended opening hours on Saturday evenings. Free guided tours of the Ancient China exhibition are offered on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. The free tours are in Hungarian and can be joined with an entrance ticket.

While the main Ancient China exhibition is in the building of the Móra Ferenc Museum, a smaller China-themed exhibition can be seen at the Fekete ház (Black House), at Somogyi Street. This small exhibit presents a unique collection of Chinese decorative and household items that the Franciscan monks collected during their missionary work in China.

The Ancien China exhibition will be open until January 7, 2024.
