SZTE cooperation with MODEM Debrecen

The design and art management master's program of the University of Szeged continues with the cooperation of MODEM, Center for Modern and Contemporary Art in Debrecen. The agreement was signed on Thursday, March 2, at the SZTE Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. At the press conference, the representatives of MODEM and SZTE outlined the significance and details of the cooperation.

Prof. Dr. Zoltán Gyenge, the dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of SZTE, explained that the art industry is increasingly present in the field of services, adding that cultural needs are gaining importance as a deciding factor in choosing a destination, and the arising economic implications need to be served by professionals.

The dean emphasized that they are aiming for serious professional cooperation with MODEM, since the cultural mediation and educational goals of the Debrecen institution, which plays a decisive role in the Hungarian museum institutional system, are the same as the goals of the Faculty's design and art management program.

Dr. Süli-Zakar Szabolcs, artistic director of MODEM, emphasized that the institution's goal is to go beyond the walls of the museum, and - in addition to the traditional public collection programs - demonstrate to the widest audience possible how exciting and current issues contemporary art deals with.

He pointed out that, in addition to the training launched jointly by MODEM and the University of Debrecen last year, hundreds of sessions were held related to the 30+ exhibition - created under the direction of curator Tamás Don - which is still on display. A wide scope of age groups, from elementary school to adults, could participate in these sessions both in person and online.

The exhibition's catalog, expanded with museum pedagogy materials and prepared for educational institutions, will also be published soon. Among other things, SZTE students can learn about this program too, in addition to seminars held by MODEM staff.

Following this, Krisztián Gábor Török, curator at MODEM, and Prof. Dr. Tamás Pavlovits, head of the Department of Philosophy at SZTE BTK, also commented on the cooperation.

According to the agreement, the course will take place in both cities, with the seminars to be held in Szeged, followed by the internship in Debrecen, where the topic of the program is urban social welfare.

Note for international students: the SZTE design and art management master's program is currently available in Hungarian
