Szeged Christmas Market opened on December 1

The 2023 Szeged Christmas Market and the Szeged Christmas Weeks were opened yesterday afternoon with a festive parade and a fire juggler show.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, December 1, the Christmas lights were turned on at Dugonics Square, lighting up the deer statue first, and with a few minutes delay all other lights in downtown Szeged. The festive parade, led by stilt walkers, started from Klauzál Square at 4:30 p.m. and headed towards Dóm Square through Kárász Street and Dugonics Square.

Despite the foggy weather, the market at Dóm Square was already buzzing with both locals and tourists, looking for Christmas gifts, trying some of the food stall offers, taking a round on the Ferris wheel, or taking photos at the two new selfie spots.

As part of the Szeged Christmas Weeks, various performances and workshops are held at Dóm Square — almost every day — in front of the Votive Church. The opening day's most popular performance was the fire show of the Szeged-based Fire Fantasy fire juggler team.

The detailed program of the Szeged Christmas Weeks can be found in the Facebook event, where the time and date of the planned performances are also listed. The event is organized by SZVP, the Szeged Fair and Market Operator Company.
