Over 50 thousand visitors at the Ancient China exhibition of Móra Museum
The visitor number of the Ancient China exhibition at Móra Museum in Szeged surpassed 50 thousand on Monday, November 27, 2023. Konstantin Medgyesi, the deputy scientific director of the Móra Ferenc Museum, and Alexandra Zoltai, the director of the SZTE Confucius Institute, greeted the lucky visitors with gift packages.
The Ancient China exhibition has been popular since its opening on May 26, 2023. Visitor numbers surpassed 15 thousand in July and 35 thousand in August. The two lucky visitors — Szeged residents Zsóka Zánthó Róbertné and Gabriella Bíró — who bought the 50,000th and 50,001st tickets, were greeted with a gift package matching the theme of the exhibition.
The main exhibition arrived in Szeged in two parts. First, the life-like copies of the terracotta warriors found at the tomb of Qin Shi Huang Di, the first emperor of China, arrived in May. The second part of the exhibition — with nearly 130 original, ancient Chinese artifacts shipped to Szeged directly from the Shanghai Museum — opened at the Night of Museums, on June 24.
A smaller China-themed exhibition is on display at the Fekete ház (Black House), at Somogyi Street. This small exhibit presents a unique collection of Chinese decorative and household items that the Hungarian Franciscan monks collected during their missionary work in China.
The Ancient China exhibition can be visited until January 7, 2024.
