Natalis, the Birthday Cake of Budapest

Budapest celebrates its 150th birthday with an official birthday cake, Natalis, the creation of Csilla Müller, confectioner of the Auguszt Confectionary in Downtown Budapest.

Twenty exciting confectionary masterpieces competed for the title of Budapest's official birthday cake. When planning Natalis, the creator tried to find the three ingredients among the raw materials listed in the tender that were most typical of the era and with which the most beautiful harmony of flavors could be achieved. Hazelnuts, coffee, and chocolate were chosen.

"Our goal was to make a cake that pays tribute to the Hungarian confectionary traditions typical of the time when Budapest was founded. The appearance of our cake is reminiscent of the great classics of the era (Dobos cake, Eszterházy cake), but at the same time, it has a different taste. We strove to find the three ingredients in the listing that we thought were most typical of the era and with which we could achieve the most beautiful harmony of flavors. This is how we chose hazelnuts, coffee, and chocolate. The focus is on hazelnuts, while coffee and chocolate perfectly enrich the taste of hazelnuts with their bitter, aromatic flavors. The twist comes from the cranberry, whose acidity makes the overall effect lighter and more vibrant," Csilla Müller, the creator of the cake, presented Natalis.

The cake of Budapest will be available in confectionaries from November 17, 2023.
