Hungary elections 2022

Hungary holds parliamentary elections, as well as a referendum today. The big question of the 2022 election is if ruling party Fidesz and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán can stay in place for another four years after spending 12 years in power or if the unprecedented six-party opposition coalition can break the cycle.

A much-debated referendum, also up for a vote today, is about sex education in schools and the availability of information for kids about gender reassignment. Human rights organizations have encouraged voters to cast invalid votes as a sign of protest against hate propaganda targeting LGBTQI rights.

Polls are open until 7 p.m. Some results should be available around 11 p.m., but the final result may only be available after a few days.

You can follow the 2022 Hungary elections on major foreign news outlets and via Hungary-based independent press too.
