February 14 is International Book Giving Day

February 14 is the day to celebrate the joy of gifting a book to someone, next to being the well-known day to celebrate love worldwide.

Book Giving Day was originally started in the United Kingdom by Amy Broadmoore and her son, through Delightful Children’s Books. The original idea was born in 2012, after noticing a need for books for children in underfunded areas.

Over the years, the day has spread, and book lovers around the world now partake in the celebrations. As stated on the day's website, Book Giving Day is a “100% volunteer initiative aimed at increasing children’s access to and enthusiasm for books.”

Anyone who sympathizes with the initiative is encouraged to gift a book to a child on this day. Book Giving Day is now celebrated officially in over 44 countries on six continents.
