SZTE in top 100 on the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023

Based on the 16th sustainable development goal — peace, justice, and strong institutions — the University of Szeged was ranked 85th on the recent Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.

Times Higher Education publishes the only list in the world that measures the performance of universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), using various indicators to provide a comprehensive comparison across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

This year, a total of 1,591 institutions are included on the newly published Impact Rankings list. The University of Szeged has retained its previous position (401-600) in the overall rankings, despite competing with 180 more institutions than last year. In terms of Hungary, SZTE finished second among 11 institutions in the overall list, in a tie with two other Hungarian universities.

In addition to the overall ranking, the University of Szeged also achieved excellent results in the 17 thematic lists. In a ranking based on the 16th sustainable development goal (peace, justice, and strong institutions), SZTE is 85th in the world, which also means the best ranking in Hungary.

SZTE reached absolute or shared first place among Hungarian universities in 8 categories — no poverty, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, climate action, life below water, and life on land — and is in the top three in several of the remaining categories.

Internationally, SZTE improved its ranking on many SDG lists, making the most progress in the area of decent work and economic growth this year, jumping from the range of 401-600 to 201-300.
